Del Mar was founded in 1885 by two men - Theodore M. Loop and "Colonel" Jacob Taylor - who were smitten with the area’s beauty. At the time, Loop referred to Del Mar as
"the most attractive place on the entire coast." Today, the sleepy community by the sea - with its miles of coastline, two beautiful beaches, the ruggedly striking Torrey Pines Reserve, and a quaint Tudoresque village - holds the same attraction for residents.
